What happened
Linde Plc (NASDAQ: LIN) Chief Financial Officer Matthew J. White sold 86,833 shares on Nov. 4 for $45.26 million. The filing says the shares came from stock options exercised the same day.
The Form 4 reports four option grants exercised that day, with exercise prices from $118.71 to $176.63 per share. After each exercise, shares were withheld to cover the exercise price and taxes, the filing says.
The sales came in four blocks. The largest was 30,095 shares at $518.50. The other three were 15,686 shares at $524.25, 24,376 shares at $520.00 and 16,676 shares at $525.00.

Why it matters
The sales look large against the stake, but the exercises swelled the stake. OptimistFi calculates that the shares sold equal 63.1% of the 137,566 shares White held just before the sales. That count already included shares added by the day's first two exercises.
The filing's running tally shows 50,733 shares after the sales. Two more exercises followed, and the direct holding stood at 83,094.804 shares after the last reported transaction. The table lists the same count before the first exercise that day.
The options were exercised far below the sale prices, so the trade turned a wide gap between strike and market price into cash.
OptimistFi has argued that Linde earns durable cash returns from long-term, on-site gas contracts and reinvests scale into low-carbon hydrogen and engineering projects. An option-linked sale by the CFO does not test that, so the investment case is unchanged.
The filing ties the trade to option exercises and share withholding for taxes. It still lists unexercised options and restricted stock units for White, so the trade is not a full exit.

What's next
The next scheduled check is Linde's next quarterly report. A new Form 4 from White showing sales beyond option-related exercises would weigh on the unchanged read. No such filing would leave the case where it stands.
