What happened
CG Oncology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CGON) reported a third-quarter net loss of $56.9 million, up from $43.8 million a year earlier. Research spending rose on clinical trial costs. The company says its cash will fund operations through 2029.
The company develops cretostimogene, an investigational oncolytic immunotherapy delivered into the bladder, for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). It set late-2026 dates for PIVOT-006 Phase 3 topline data, 12-month readouts from two cohorts and completion of its BLA submission.
Chairman, President and CEO Arthur Kuan said the company remains confident that cretostimogene can become a backbone therapy for patients and create long-term value for shareholders.

Where the loss came from
Research and development expenses rose 40.7% to $39.2 million from $27.9 million a year earlier. The filing blames mainly higher clinical trial expenses, including CMC costs, and higher pay costs from added headcount.
General and administrative expenses edged down to $23.0 million from $23.3 million, on lower professional and consultant fees, partly offset by higher personnel costs. Net interest income fell to $6.42 million from $7.42 million.
Revenue is small beside the cost base. Total revenues were $1.60 million against $1.67 million a year earlier, and cost of sales was $2.67 million, up from $1.58 million.
Net loss per share was $(0.64), against $(0.57) a year earlier. Weighted average shares outstanding were 88.87 million, up from 76.73 million. For the first nine months, the net loss was $196.1 million against $119.7 million, a 63.9% increase.

Cash and runway
Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities totaled $984.5 million at Sept. 30, compared with $1.0 billion at June 30. The balance at Dec. 31, 2025 was $742.2 million.
The company expects that balance to fund operations through 2029. The filing says the estimate rests on assumptions about operating plans, expenses and capital needs that may prove wrong, and the company may use its capital sooner than expected.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that CG Oncology is a high-binary-risk bet on cretostimogene becoming the bladder-sparing backbone therapy for NMIBC, not only a single-indication approval story. The quarter is mixed for that view. The spending and the dated readouts fit a broader program, but the results are still ahead.
The company calls PIVOT-006 the first randomized registrational trial in intermediate-risk and high-grade Ta NMIBC. That patient group differs from the BCG-unresponsive indication in the initial BLA. The backbone argument needs breadth across groups.
The risk is that nothing is yet proven. The filing says topline, preliminary, interim or 12-month results may not hold up on full analysis or predict longer-term results. It also says the FDA may not approve cretostimogene on the expected timeline, for the expected indication or label, or at all.
In October the company named Isabel Kalofonos chief commercial officer. The filing says she has more than 20 years of experience in drug launches, including PALSONIFY and ELAHERE.
What's next
PIVOT-006 Phase 3 topline data, due this month, is the next test. A clear result in intermediate-risk and high-grade Ta NMIBC would back the broader-franchise argument. A miss would narrow the case to the BCG-unresponsive indication.
In December, 12-month data are due from BOND-003 Cohort P, which covers BCG-unresponsive papillary-only NMIBC, and from CORE-008 Cohort CX. The company also expects to complete its BLA submission for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC in the fourth quarter.
