What happened
First Phosphate Corp. (NASDAQ: PHOS) restated a 33.0% projected after-tax return for its Bégin-Lamarche property in its annual information form. The filing is dated Oct. 29 and covers the year ended Feb. 28, 2026.
The figure comes from a preliminary economic assessment the company announced on Dec. 4, 2024. It is not a new study. The assessment also projects an after-tax net present value of C$1.59 billion at an 8% discount rate. The filing says its dollar amounts are Canadian.
The assessment assumes the property would produce an annual average of 900,000 tonnes of phosphate concentrate at 40% P2O5 and 380,000 tonnes of magnetite over a 23-year mine life. It projects after-tax cash flow of C$700 million in years 1 to 3 and a 2.9-year payback from the start of production.

Why it matters
Bégin-Lamarche screens far stronger than the company's other principal property. The Lac à l'Orignal assessment, announced July 26, 2023, projected an after-tax IRR of 17.2%, an after-tax NPV of C$511 million at a 5% discount rate and a 4.9-year payback. The two NPVs use different discount rates, so the IRRs and paybacks compare more cleanly.
OptimistFi treats PHOS as a development option. Its value depends on turning battery-supply-chain demand into an economic, financeable project before cash burn forces dilution. Strong project economics speak to the first half of that test, not the financing half.
The economics remain preliminary. The filing says Mineral Resources that are not Mineral Reserves have not shown they can be mined profitably. It lists negative cash flow, dependence on additional financing and dilution among its risk factors.

What's next
The next scheduled disclosure is the company's next quarterly report. Financing terms for Bégin-Lamarche, a reserve estimate or a permit decision would show the project moving past the preliminary stage and would strengthen the case. New share issuance to fund the work would put the dilution risk back in front.
