GeoPark (NYSE: GPRK) secures Corralera NE block for $95 million

What happened

GeoPark Limited (NYSE: GPRK) said on October 21, 2026 that it won the Corralera Noreste Block in Argentina, expanding its position in Vaca Muerta. The award gives GeoPark about 26,900 gross acres, about 24,200 net acres to GeoPark, and a total committed cost of about $95 million.

Under the winning offer, GeoPark will pay a one-time access bonus of $60.5 million to the Province of Neuquén. GeoPark also committed to drill and frack 2 horizontal wells, each with 2,000 meters of horizontal section and 30 frack stages, during the initial four-year exploration period.

GeoPark will hold a 90% working interest and act as operator, while GyP will hold the remaining 10% interest fully carried by GeoPark. The block carries a 12% royalty and allows a second four-year exploration period, with a 35-year unconventional exploitation concession possible after a commercial discovery. GeoPark said the award is a natural extension of its Argentina strategy and a potential long-term continuation of its growth platform in the country.

Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that GeoPark needs acreage that can replace depletion at attractive costs and turn barrels into cash, and this award fits that test. Mixed: the $60.5 million access bonus is about 64% of the stated $95 million committed cost, and GeoPark says further appraisal and full-field development remain subject to technical performance and project economics.

What's next

GeoPark and GyP will execute the applicable joint venture agreement, and the agreement will then go to the Executive Branch of the Province of Neuquén for approval. GeoPark said it will provide further information after that execution and approval process.

A completed approval would strengthen the case by moving the block into the planned two-well program. A delay would leave the award at the approval and appraisal stage.

GeoPark expects to fund the initial bonus and subsequent commitments with existing cash and committed liquidity sources. The filing says that approach comes with no change to the company's capital allocation priorities.
