Why it matters

Reported sales growth exceeded comparable sales growth by 7.5 percentage points, a gap tied to the filing's acquisition and foreign-exchange adjustments.

First nine months sales reached $36.77 billion, up from $32.87 billion a year earlier, and adjusted diluted EPS rose to $3.88 from $3.65.

OptimistFi's case is that Abbott's diversified portfolio can turn stable demand into cash and per-share growth.

This release is mixed for that view because sales and adjusted EPS improved, but GAAP operating earnings fell 34.0 percent to $1.36 billion and net earnings fell 44.1 percent to $920 million.

The quarter included net after-tax charges of $1.56 billion, mostly for intangible amortization, legal settlements, acquisitions, restructuring actions and other net expenses.

Taxes on earnings also included approximately $100 million in adjustments related to prior recognition of a significant non-cash deferred tax benefit.

What's next

Abbott's quarterly dividend of $0.63 per share is payable Nov. 16, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Oct. 15, 2026.

Fourth-quarter 2026 adjusted diluted EPS is projected at $1.62 to $1.67.

A result near that range would support the updated outlook, while a miss would weaken it.
