Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that Home Bank must keep turning a local deposit-and-credit franchise into spread income without letting deposit costs or credit losses absorb the benefit. This quarter was mixed for that case. Net interest income held essentially steady at $35.9 million, up $110,000, even as the net interest margin slipped five basis points to 4.19%.
Core deposits fell $28.3 million, or 1.2%, to $2.3 billion. Nonperforming assets rose to $53.7 million, or 1.49% of total assets. That was up $14.5 million, or 37%, from June 30. Six loan relationships totaling $19.5 million were placed on nonaccrual status, although management said it does not expect sizable losses from them.
Noninterest income rose to $4.2 million. Noninterest expense also rose, to $26.3 million, mainly because of foreclosed assets and franchise and shares tax. Higher deposit costs and credit related interest reversals were the main pressures, while loan pricing and portfolio mix offset part of them.

What's next
Executive management will host a conference call on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. CDT to discuss third-quarter 2026 results.
The dividend is scheduled for November 13, 2026, with the record date set for November 2, 2026. Bordelon's retirement as CEO takes effect January 8, 2027, and Guidry will assume the role the same day.
The next test is whether the call shows the six nonaccrual relationships remain contained and net interest income stays near $35.9 million.
