Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that RBB works if its Los Angeles-centered community-bank franchise can fund relationship loans at acceptable spreads while avoiding the credit accidents that erase small-bank earnings. This filing is mixed for that view. Net interest margin improved to 3.16% from 3.06% in the prior quarter, and nonperforming assets fell to $38.7 million from $43.6 million.

Quarterly net income rose from $10.1 million to $12.6 million, a $2.5 million increase on OptimistFi's calculation. But the quarter included a $2.7 million gain on the sale of an office building in Brooklyn, New York, and a $320,000 special dividend from the Federal Home Loan Bank. The loan-to-deposit ratio remained 100.1%, so the quarter still carried little deposit cushion.

What's next

Management will hold a conference call on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time. That call is the next scheduled chance to hear whether the deposit mix and margin trends are carrying into the fourth quarter.

The dividend is payable on November 12, 2026 to shareholders of record on October 30, 2026. A stronger case would pair stable margins and lower problem assets with more deposit growth that does not lean on wholesale funding. A weaker one would show the quarter's earnings lift fading once the building-sale gain and FHLB dividend drop out.
