FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) Guides to Slower ASV Growth

What happened

FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) guided fiscal 2027 organic subscription growth below its fiscal 2026 result. Organic annual subscription value, or ASV, ended fiscal 2026 at $2.568 billion, up 7.0%. The fiscal 2027 guide is 5.0% to 6.5%.

ASV measures the next 12 months of subscription revenue already supplied to clients. FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) excludes acquisitions, dispositions and currency changes from its organic figure, making the periods more comparable.

The fourth quarter itself was strong. Revenue rose 6.3% to $634.7 million, organic revenue increased 7.1%, annual ASV retention stayed above 95%, and average renewal contract length increased about 30%. FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) also said AI solutions ASV added during fiscal 2026 more than doubled from the prior year.

Why it matters

The changed assumption is the speed of recurring growth. FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) added $168.2 million of organic ASV in fiscal 2026. Applying the 5.75% midpoint of fiscal 2027 guidance to the $2.568 billion year-end base implies about $147.7 million of growth, roughly $20.5 million less than the amount just added. That is OptimistFi midpoint math, not management's dollar forecast.

The outlook therefore points to slower subscription growth after a record year, even as longer contracts and high retention improve revenue visibility. That matters because subscription growth is the main engine behind future revenue, while annual adjusted operating margin fell from 36.3% to 34.5% in fiscal 2026.

There is a counterweight. Fiscal 2027 adjusted-margin guidance is 34.75% to 35.25%. Its 35.0% midpoint is half a percentage point above fiscal 2026. Free cash flow also rose 14.6% to $707.5 million. If enterprise contracts and AI products convert on schedule, slower guided ASV growth could coexist with better margins and cash generation.

What's next

The investment case is mixed rather than reversed. Fiscal 2026 proved FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) can accelerate organic ASV, retain clients and extend contracts. Fiscal 2027 guidance lowers the growth bar before investors have seen those larger agreements translate into reported revenue.

Watch first-quarter organic ASV growth, the dollar addition from new enterprise contracts, AI-related ASV and adjusted margin. Results above the 6.5% high end without renewed margin pressure would strengthen the case. Growth near 5.0%, weak cash conversion or another margin decline would weaken it.
