What happened
Corporaci n Am rica Airports S.A. (NYSE: CAAP) said Argentina approved changes to AARG's concession agreement. The filing says the changes address higher capital investment needs tied to recent passenger growth and allow a capital investment program in Argentina's airport system.
The total capital investment program is expected to be about $7.3 billion, including VAT, over the concession term. It is mainly funded by certain trusts. About $1.5 billion is expected during 2027 to 2031 across the airports in the AARG concession. AARG may not have to make investments above the agreed amounts unless the parties set the needed mechanisms and contractual adjustments.

Why it matters
CAAP's case is that it can keep monetizing airport traffic through regulated charges and commercial services. This filing strengthens that view. It approves an economic and financial plan with a resulting IRR of 14.30%. It also extends the Contract by 11 years, plus 7 more years as compensation for the $600 million in direct investments committed by AARG.
The traffic backdrop matters too. 2025 passenger traffic reached 86.7 million, up from 79.0 million in 2024, or 9.8%. The administrative decision ties the rebalancing to that growth. AARG may not be required to make investments above the agreed amounts unless the needed mechanisms and contractual adjustments are in place. The filing says those changes must preserve the economic and financial equilibrium of the concession.
What's next
The Domestic Passenger Use Fee 1 will rise to $9.00 by January 1, 2027. The Regional Passenger Use Fee ($25.16), which now applies to regional flights of up to 300 km, will by then apply to flights of up to 1,000 km.
Projections will be updated and reviewed every 3 years.
