What happened
Infinity Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE: INR) said realized and unrealized derivative losses totaled about $64.4 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. About $1.2 million came from settled derivative contracts. About $63.2 million came from non-cash mark-to-market losses in the outstanding portfolio.
Those settlements were tied to contracts referencing crude oil prices, natural gas prices, natural gas liquids prices and regional basis differentials. Infinity said the contracts were entered into under a board-approved hedging strategy. The press release was preliminary and unaudited. The company said the unrealized adjustments do not represent current-period cash inflows or outflows, but an accounting remeasurement of open positions.

Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that Infinity's stock works only if acreage turns into repeatable cash-on-cash drilling returns, not just higher commodity-linked revenue. This filing does not test drilling economics, but it does show how hedges can swing reported quarterly results by tens of millions of dollars. At about $64.4 million, the derivative loss is the sum of a $63.2 million unrealized charge and $1.2 million of realized settlements.
The company also said the unrealized losses come from revaluing open positions against forward commodity price curves. So the mark can move with prices. The open WTI swaps carry a negative fair value of $44.6 million, and the collars carry a negative fair value of $2.19 million. That matters because those marks can move independently of drilling results.
The table also lists natural gas, fixed basis, basis and NGL swaps that settle after September 30, 2026. Those marks can carry into future quarters if prices keep moving. The main caveat is the one the company states. The unrealized piece is non-cash and may change as prices move. The figures are only preliminary.

What's next
Infinity said final amounts for the three months ended September 30, 2026 will come in its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q or in the corresponding earnings release. That filing will show whether the derivative loss stays near this level or narrows in the final numbers.
A smaller unrealized loss would weaken the case that hedging marks are dominating the quarter. A larger one would reinforce that reading. Investors will then be able to compare the final third-quarter figures with this preliminary update.
