The guessing game started last week as students and instructors scrambled and scurried across campus looking for rooms that either didn't exist, or were finally identified as utility closets. In the first debacle of the semester, the Registrar mistakenly assigned classes to rooms that didn't exit, frustrating hundreds of Lincoln students and faculty, and ultimately forcing university officials to hire a consultant to help sort out the mess.
At about 3 p.m. last week, students, faculty, and staff made their way to Manuel Rivero Hall to attend the Student Government Association's and to hear Dr. Ivory V. Nelson address the entire Lincoln University community, in the first Convocation of the 2008-2009 academic school-year.
Ashley Gabb, who graduated from Lincoln University last year with a degree in Mass Communications, has been appointed to the position of Assistant Director of Public Relations. Gabb, who hails from the Poconos, says that she is excited about the opportunity to help spread the word about the positive activity taking place at the university.
Jurnee Smollett, who appeared in best-selling movies like "The Great Debaters" and "Eve's Bayou" was on campus today stumping for presidential hopeful Barack Obama. The Obama Campaign in Pennsylvania as well as the on-campus organization, People Standing United, arranged for Smollet's visit to campus in an effort to encourage Lincoln students to register and vote in Pennsylvania, long considered a swing state.
The Dickey Hall Auditorium was the venue for the first student body meeting of the 2008-2009 academic year. The Student Government Association- consisting of Milan Carter, president, Sherrell Harwell, president pro-temp, Quinton Lightbourne, vice president of external affairs, Brittany Stephens, Secretary, and Jerrell Hooker, vice president of Internal Affairs-- gave an overview of what to expect for the upcoming month.
