It's that time of the year again.
The Student Government Association recently held its 2nd Annual Interest meeting for those students interested in serving as officers in year's Student Government Association (SGA).

Available positions include: President, Vice President of Internal Affairs, Vice President of External Affairs, Treasurer, Secretary and President Pro-Temp.

"I am looking forward to seeing the new face of leadership on this campus," says Kerrie Brewster, who currently serves as Vice President of External Affairs. "As a graduating senior, I've seen most of the people who are interested in serving in SGA matriculate from other positions such as class leader or student leader ambassador. It's inspiring to see that Lincoln is still producing leaders."

In order to be considered for an SGA position, students must have a 2.8 grade point average. Students must have also completed 30 credit hours and should at least be a sophomore. According to officials at SGA, interested students must receive 100 signatures on a petition that has to be approved by the election committee of the Student Senate. Lastly, there is an application that must be submitted as well.

"I hope that the people who are planning to fun for office truly understand the time and commitment that they have to put into it to be effective," says Chester Hampton III, who currently serves as Vice President of Internal Affairs of SGA. "This is not just an activity. When you are in SGA, you are on duty 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It's time consuming, but it's rewarding because you see that you are really making a difference."

Some students say that the current SGA, which has been under the leadership of Adonita "Chyna" Ahmetaj has successfully reformed the organization by encouraging more student participation and sponsoring a seven day service project to New Orleans over the Winter break to help assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"I hope that the next Student Government Association builds on what we've done this year in terms of community service, relationships with administration, and networking with the student body," says Harold Williams, who is currently the President Pro-Temp of the SGA. "We continue to strive for excellence and I hope that they keep that same spirit."
