Next week, professors in the English and Mass Communications Department will be moving into their newly refurbished offices with more space. This will mark a dramatic difference from the the noisy and cluttered cubicles that they were forced to share with each other.
"It was really stressful working in the cubicles." said Susan Chikwem, a lecturer in the English and Mass Communications Department.
"Finally!" said Dr. Benson Prigg, an associate professor in the English department.
"I'm hoping with the change there should be vigor and energy from the students."
University Hall, one of the oldest buildings on campus, was officially closed after the 2005-2006 academic year. In May of 2006, the doors closed for a little over a year or what seemed like a long time to many students.
"I'm happy they kept the original structure of the building," said Chikwem. "The technology is still not finished yet but the classrooms are going to be really nice," she added.
Many students are anticipating the wait. Natasha Joseph, a junior is tired of walking down the tightly bunched hallways of the modules.
"It wasn't enough room in the trailers," she said. "[University Hall] is another place where students can have meetings and so on."
Classes begin on January 9, 2008. With a new semester, and a new year, Prigg hopes that the students adapt to the change.
"A change in the community should hopefully affect the way a student learns."
In addition to University Hall, Ware Center will also open its doors in the Spring. Faculty in the music department were planning to relocate early next week.
