A renovated classroom in University Hall remains empty.

University Hall, which was supposed to open earlier this semester, remains closed, but university officials remain hopeful for a January occupancy.

The building was vacated last year for some necessary renovations and sent English and Mass Communication faculty to the temporary modules.

"To accomplish our goal of a first class facility we had to follow the Commonwealth's unique two step construction process," said Dr. Ivory V. Nelson, President of Lincoln University, in a letter written to the campus community.

But some graduating seniors say that they were hopeful that they would be able to enjoy the new building before they graduated from the university.

Dr. Marilyn D. Button, chair of the Department of English and Mass Communications readily acknowledges the superiority of the new facility to the old building and program offerings

"The new technology, the facility in general, and the new curriculum will help us to meet higher standards of excellence in both our teaching and learning," Button said.

University officials say that additional work inside of the building must be completed before faculty can move into their offices.

"The building has to be wired", said Dr. Grant D. Venerable, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Venerable and Nelson say that they are unable to provide an actual date for the re-opening of University Hall. The first part of the process has been completed and the second part of the process is currently under way. The second part of the process involves the installation of office and classroom furniture.

"We trust that they will have it ready for next semester" said Venerable.
