Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Theon Francis is a force to be reckoned with on the soccer field.
During the month of September, Francis helped Lincoln break a two-game losing streak by scoring a goal and adding an assist during Lincoln's 4-1 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg on Sept. 19.
Francis' effort helped the Lions improve their overall record to 2-3.
Although the Lions have been defeated twice since then, the men's soccer team has the best record for Lincoln University's athletics, thus far.
"I feel that the team is growing in many aspects," said Francis. "The unity and the brotherhood that is present in the team is very encouraging and it will be very interesting to see where this attitude will take us."
Although the soccer team is off to a rough start, Francis believes that the brotherhood and unity will take the team a long way this season and aid in turning the season around.
Francis is second on the team this season in scoring with eight points. He has three goals and two assists. The men are very optimistic about the season, disregarding the fact that they are unable to advance to the Division II championships because the NCAA requires a two-year waiting period since Lincoln shifted from Division III to Division II last year.
"My love and appreciation for this beautiful sport is the main reason that I continue to play, knowing that there will not be a championship to work towards," said Francis. "The schedule that we have this year is a very competitive one that includes teams that played in the Division II championships last year. It is an experience that I don't want to let go by."
Francis pays much respect to his teammates Jerell Hooker, Kareem Morancie-Leid, Peter Jarbo and Karmah Dawana.
But, what are good players without an outstanding coach?
"Coach Mass Sarr has a great part to play in my desire to represent Lincoln this season," says Francis. "As he continues to share his 'on the pitch' experiences with me, he encourages me, and reminds me how beautiful this sport is."
