The Lincolnian, Lincoln University's student newspaper, is being upgraded.
Students will now be informed of news, events, and other happenings around campus through the web. The "Lincolnian Online" is launching its first isssue in November 2007 under the advisorship of Eric Watson, an assistant professor of English and Mass Communications.
Watson, who arrived at Lincoln in August, is the new faculty advisor of The Lincolnian, and is working with students from his News Layout and Design class to produce the newspaper. It is the responsibility of the students to produce the content, vision, and overall look of the paper.
The Lincolnian will include news, features, sports, editorials, and entertainment, covered and written solely by Lincoln University students. The online stories will be updated on a weekly basis.
In an age of convergence and technology, Watson said that the online newspaper provides an opportunity for students to bring news about Lincoln University to a broader audience.
"Parents, alumni and the broader nation will now be able to read about what is happening here at Lincoln on a regular basis," said Watson. "Students who are serious about pursuing a career in journalism will have their published work available for prospective employers to read."
The electronic version of The Lincolnian is the latest addition to the English and Mass Communications Department. As part of the overall renovations to University Hall, The Lincolnian will inherit a sprawling newsroom, equipped with brand new computers and the latest technology in publishing.
"This is a very exciting time for the Mass Communications program," said Watson. "Our journalism program is growing and students are gaining the necessary skills that will allow them to compete with other journalism students across the nation."
